For the past three years, the Community Life Team at MCC San Jose has sponsored a gift drive for local children living with HIV or AIDS.
This year we need your help to provide 60 children with wonderful holiday gifts. Our goal this year is to raise $5,000 to provide each child with a $10 movie ticket and a $25 gift certificate to a department store. Please join us this Saturday, November 15 for the “Join the Impact” Rally at San Jose’s City Hall. We’ll be gathering at MCC at 9:45am, and then walking over to City Hall for the rally at 10:30am. City Hall is located at 200 East Santa Clara Street (not far from the church).
If you’d like to help prepare for the rally, Craig Persons will be at MCC from 1:00pm to 10:00pm on Friday, November 14 making signs and banners for the rally. He welcomes helpers – no prior experience is necessary. Please call the church office at (408) 279-2711 if you’d like more information.
Please note: our Coming Out Support Group will be meeting this Friday evening at 7:30pm in the church as usual. The banner folks will be using the sanctuary while the Coming Out Support Group meets in the church office.
Please join us from 5:00pm – 6:30pm on Monday, November 10, 2008 at MCC San José for a candlelight vigil to protest Proposition 8. This vigil is being organized by MCC and the Council of Churches of Santa Clara County.
Please note: MCC San Jose is located directly across the street from a mission center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons). It is very important that our vigil be non-violent and law-abiding. If you feel that you cannot participate in a peaceful protest across the street from a Mormon center, please stay home. We will not tolerate inappropriate behavior at our vigil.
The Council of Churches is also organizing vigils in other parts of the county on Monday night. For more information, please visit the Council of Churches’ website.
