We will not be having a worship service in the Victory Parking Lot at 10:00am before the parade this year. Instead, we will be joining the Campbell United Church of Christ for a joint worship service at the Country Western Stage in the festival grounds at 11:00am. Rev. Mike will be leading communion and Rev. Sky will be giving healing prayer.
On Sunday, June 15, a contingent from our church will march in the San Jose Pride Parade. Please meet at 9:30am at the corner of Santa Clara and Market Streets to join us for this event.
At 10:30am on Saturday, June 14, the Council of Churches of Santa Clara County will present this year’s Celebration in Spirit, an ecumenical Christian worship service. This year’s service will focus on “Keeping our Marriage Rights!” Rev. Penny Nixon will preach. The MCCSJ Choir and the Peace Chorale will sing, and Ruth Huber will lead a special mass choir including those singers and others. This free event will be held at the First Congregational Church of San Jose, located at 1980 Hamilton Avenue in San Jose.

Many cultures around the world have acknowledged the spiritual gifts of lesbian, gay and transgender people in their midst. In Hawaii, for instance, being mahu was to be a treasured person in the family – someone who provided fun and entertainment and joy – and yes, spirituality! Many cultures have regarded lesbians as powerful women who had special gifts of healing and knowledge. Native American tribes often had positions of special honor for gay people, who were often regarded as shamans and as people of spiritual power, and they had room for gender variations in a way that treated such gender diversity with respect.
Here is a video of Rev. Sky Anderson talking about the early days of MCC and the first Gay Pride Parade in Worchester, Massachusetts. It now has more than 4,500 views from people around the world, including viewers in North America, South America, Australia, Asia, Europe and Africa.
